Max being the ultimate multitasker, he worked full-time as a Professional Engineer during law school before graduating from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. Prior to law school, Max attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts where he received a Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering. Max earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont in Burlington and was a member of Tau Beta Pi – Engineering Honor Society.
An illustrious career in engineering provided Max with a distinctive advantage that laid the foundation for a successful estate planning practice. For instance, estate plans provide an important place in organizing one’s assets and arranging distribution to one’s descendants. Max gives clients much-needed certainty and clarity, not only to the person creating the estate plan but also to their family, where appropriate. Estate planning involves identifying long-term goals with regard to medical decisions and finances, and implementing plans to accomplish them.
After graduating from law school, Max provided Legal Services to underserved communities in New York City, where he managed the defense of over 500 summary proceedings from the pleading stage forward for the largest municipal employee union in New York. His responsibilities included extensive settlement negotiations, motion practice with oral argument and trial practice. He successfully argued cases before the Appellate Term, Second Department.
Thereafter, Max represented some of New York City’s larger landlords, handling their tenant litigation. Max advised commercial and residential landlords in prosecution of summary proceedings, including nonpayment and holdover cases. He negotiated buy-out agreements, leases and settlement agreements on a daily basis. He defended landlords from claims brought by tenants in civil, small claims and administrative proceedings.
Once he gained valuable litigation and negotiation experience in New York, Max relocated to Florida with his wife to raise a family. He joined a boutique firm in Delray Beach, where he negotiated and closed a wide variety of commercial and residential real estate matters including lease, mortgage and purchase transactions. He also handled probate matters, prepared numerous estate plans such as wills, trusts and powers of attorney.
Max always had a strong desire to create his own supportive estate planning law firm after he saw the triggers that can ignite family conflict and cause unnecessary heartache and expensive litigation. Max’s success at helping clients derives from not only his honed expertise but also thoughtfulness in navigating family dynamics, coupled with his dedication to understanding the wishes and needs of clients.
